Centrify & Idaptive Spin Out Announcement FAQ

Centrify today announced it is spinning out its Identity-as-a-Service (IDaaS) business as standalone company named Idaptive.

  • Centrify is sharpening its strategic focus on redefining the legacy approach to Privileged Access Management (PAM) with cloud-architected Zero Trust Privilege to stop the leading cause of breaches — privileged access abuse.
  • Idaptive will deliver Next-Gen Access to protect employees, partners and customers with its market-leading IDaaS solution, securing access everywhere with an Intelligent Access Cloud that constantly learns from and adapts to login context and risk in a way that protects companies.

Centrify and Idaptive will be affiliated companies that begin operational independence in January 2019.

We also announced new leadership for both companies:

  • Tim Steinkopf, Chief Financial Officer, has been named CEO of Centrify effective January 1, 2019.
  • Danny Kibel, who currently leads development of Centrify’s IDaaS solutions as Vice President of Engineering and Operations, will assume the CEO role at Idaptive effective January 1, 2019.

Centrify co-founder and CEO Tom Kemp will serve as an active strategic advisor through the transition period.

This new strategy doubles down on two distinct areas of enterprise security with dedicated resources to optimize focus, efficiency, customer success and growth. Both companies will be better positioned to strengthen their leadership positions in their respective markets through both organic and inorganic growth. We believe we can create more value for our customers with two companies, each with a specific category focus.

First and foremost, all customers will maintain 100% full features and functionality for all of their use cases. We commit to making the transition process as seamless as possible.

This strategy is borne out of our mission to make our customers secure and successful, and to create more value for them through two companies, each with a specific category focus. It allows each company to better focus on innovation, accelerate their respective roadmaps, and optimize customer success.

Our customers typically fall into one of four categories: PAM, Application Services, Endpoint Services, or Platform. The following questions will address the impact of our new strategy on these customer groups.

  2. Starting in December, Customer Success will reach out to detail new Idaptive support contacts and begin planning and scheduling your tenant migration, these migrations will occur throughout calendar 2019.
  3. At the time of your migration Customer Success will schedule and conduct a training to review in detail any user experience changes you will need to transition to after migration.

From now to Jan 1st please continue to work directly with Centrify for any support, purchasing, or other questions.

Tim Steinkopf, Chief Financial Officer, has been named CEO of Centrify. During his seven years as CFO at Centrify, the company has evolved to become a global leader in Zero Trust Security solutions for Identity & Access Management, and he was named the 2016 CFO of the Year by Silicon Valley Business Journal.

Danny Kibel, who currently leads development of Centrify’s IDaaS solutions as Vice President of Engineering and Operations, assumes the CEO role at Idaptive. The executive leadership teams for both companies will be comprised of existing Centrify executives to take each business forward with consistency and ensure a seamless transition for customers.

The executive leadership teams for the two new companies are comprised of Centrify executives. This demonstrates confidence by the board in doubling down to take each business forward with consistent leadership for a seamless transition.

Tom Kemp co-founded Centrify 14 years ago and has led the company through a number of industry milestones, such as combining Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) and IDaaS as a unified service, and pioneering Privilege-as-a-Service. Kemp will transition to an active strategic advisory role.

Centrify’s roots are in privilege management and what we are most commonly associated with, so we will maintain the Centrify brand for the business focused on PAM or, more specifically, Zero Trust Privilege.
While operationally we’ll be two companies, we share common ownership (by Thoma Bravo) and, more importantly, we will be strong partners in the market to continue to solve the security needs of our customers. While we have a shared past, each company will pursue strategic partnerships that make the most sense for the business and our customers.

The PAM category today is primarily comprised of legacy vendors who have focused on use cases that no longer address the security requirements of the modern enterprise. Privileged access is no longer constrained to systems and resources inside the network such as infrastructure, databases, and network devices. It is extended to an expanded threatscape that includes cloud environments and big data projects, DevOps, containers and more.

A legacy PAM solution will not suffice – a cloud-architected, Zero Trust Privilege solution must emerge.

Centrify is focused on increasing our leadership position in the market with a vision backed by innovation, best practices, and strong execution. Centrify will continue redefining the legacy approach to Privileged Access Management by delivering cloud-architected Zero Trust Privilege to secure modern enterprise use cases.

  • Earn the trust and love of customers by creating intense freedom and offering simple, secure and personalized experiences.
Idaptive delivers Next-Gen Access, protecting organizations from data breaches through a Zero Trust approach. Idaptive secures access to applications and endpoints by verifying every user, validating their devices, and intelligently limiting their access. Idaptive Next-Gen Access is the only industry-recognized solution that uniquely converges single single-on (SSO), adaptive multi-factor authentication (MFA), enterprise mobility management (EMM) and user behavior analytics (UBA). With Idaptive, organizations experience increased security, reduced complexity and have newfound confidence to drive new business models and deliver awesome customer experiences.
Today we are announcing Centrify’s new focus on Zero Trust Privilege and our intent to spin out the IDaaS business as Idaptive, a new company focused on Next-Gen Access. The formal operations date for the two affiliated-but-independent companies is January 1, 2019.

From now to Jan 1st it’s business as usual, and customers will continue to work directly with Centrify for any support, purchasing, or other questions.

Over the next few months, Centrify and Idaptive will begin outreach to our customers with more information, such as sales contacts, new Idaptive support contacts, if applicable. The satisfaction and success of our customers is paramount during this transition, and we strive to minimize any disruption and commit to communicate transparently about any upcoming changes. Our commitment is to as seamlessly as possible transition for our customers, partners, and employees.
The R&D organization is already aligned around product lines, so the split of resources to Centrify and Idaptive is a natural division. Each company is staffed for success going forward.
Customers will maintain full functionality for all their use cases. At this time neither Centrify nor Idaptive are announcing End of Life for any products or services.
The Idaptive cloud operations team is the same team that was running your Centrify services so you should see no change in performance. If your contract has been assigned to Idaptive then ALL commitments made in the contract still hold.
Yes, your Customer Success representative will also schedule time to review any user experience changes that will occur as a result of the migration with your team.
From day one Idaptive will maintain all controls currently deployed in Centrify, and we will be able to provide documentation of both Centrify and Idaptive (Centrify compliance with a bridge letter) SOC2 compliance as requested.
