NIS-Migration.com Is Now Live; New Resource Site for Replacing NIS

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

As part of our continued efforts to make UNIX and Linux systems more secure by getting customers to replace their old and insecure Network Information Service (NIS) directory service deployment(s) and onto a modern and more secure LDAP and Kerberos infrastructure, Centrify is pleased to announced it has created a NIS replacement and migration resource site: NIS-Migration.com.

This resource site discusses what is NIS/NIS+, what are NIS/NIS+'s limitations, provides an example of how you can migrate from NIS/NIS+ to a LDAP directory (e.g. Microsoft Active Directory), and provides links to additional material on replacing NIS with LDAP and Kerberos. While examples will initially be focused on Centrify's solutions and approach to NIS Migration, over time we hope to add additional examples and resources to provide a full spectrum of NIS migration resources.
