The 451 Group: Centrify Has the 'Lead in the Market' for Active Directory-Centric Consolidated Identity Management

Friday, May 2, 2008

It's one thing for a vendor to self-proclaim that they are the clear leader in a given market, it's another for a respected outside (i.e. independent) analyst firm to analyze a given market in a great amount of detail, interview all the key players, and then based on the facts articulate who really is the leader. That's why we are quite proud to have read in recent reports that the respected independent analyst firm The 451 Group has said that Centrify has "a lead in the market" and is "ahead in terms of market penetration in this pure-play category" of consolidating identity management around Active Directory. This means that while analysts and reviewers had previously looked at our technology and named Centrify DirectControl as "the best tool out there for integrating Linux and AD", "Security Product of the Year", etc. (i.e. showing that we have a clear technology lead), this very recent analysis actually represents the first time any analyst group has looked at market adoption over the last few years in this "extending AD" market and named a market leader: Centrify.

So with that in mind, I am pleased to mention publicly for the first time that Centrify now has over 450 enterprise customers, including over 38% of the Fortune 50 who are customers. This means our customer base has doubled from 225 to 450 in the last 9 months alone since we last published our customer stats, while our penetration of the Fortune 50 has grown from 25% to over 38% in 9 months. No doubt the combination of those two statistics influenced The 451 Group's declaration of market leadership. Clearly we must be doing something right, especially with Fortune 50 customers who have large numbers of heterogeneous systems (e.g. UNIX, Linux, Mac, etc.) and want to integrate those systems in with their Windows infrastructure. But we know we can always do better, so we are definitely not resting on any laurels, and expect to hear some more interesting stuff out of us in the coming months!
