Centrify Broadens UNIX Authentication and Access Control with DirectControl 4.1

Monday, April 7, 2008

Today we announced DirectControl 4.1. While a relatively minor release, it adds over 20 additional operating systems to our industry-leading list of non-Microsoft platforms (now over 135 platforms), Windows 2008 support, new web application support and also adds misc. support tools and utilities. It will be released by the end of April.

Below are some additional details on the new release.

New operating system support that DirectControl delivers for UNIX authentication, single sign-on and Zone-based access control includes:

  • SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 on Power PC
  • OpenSuSE 10.3 (32 and 64 bit)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 on Power PC
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 on Intel Itanium
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.1 (32 and 64 bit)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Desktop 5.1 (32 and 64 bit)
  • Fedora 8 (32 and 64 bit)
  • Scientific Linux 4.5 (32 and 64 bit)
  • VMWare ESX 3.5
  • Ubuntu Desktop LTS 6.06 (64 bit)
  • Ubuntu Desktop 7.04 (64 bit)
  • Ubuntu Desktop 7.10 (32 and 64 bit)
  • Ubuntu Server LTS 6.06 (32 bit)
  • Ubuntu Server 7.04 (32 bit)
  • Ubuntu Server 7.10 (32 and 64 bit)
  • IBM AIX 6.1
  • Apple Mac OS X 10.5.2

Windows 2008 support:

  • DirectControl now supports Windows 2008 Domain and Forest Functional Level.
  • DirectControl is certified for Windows 2003 and is the first (and only!) identity and access management solution certified for Windows Server 2008.

Enhanced web application support includes:

  • Cluster support for JBoss, WebLogic and WebSphere on UNIX.
  • TomCat 6, JBoss 4.2.2 and other additional application version support.
  • Extended cross-forest support (including one-way trusts) for our web application support.
  • NTLMv2 is supported in DirectControl 4.1 and this support is extended to web. This enables Mac Safari browser users as well as Windows users whose system is configured to do NTLMv2 only for security reasons to use NTLM for authentication to the web server.

Misc. tools and utilities include:

  • Various updates to our powerful command line interface.
  • New command “addns” that implements secure DNS updates with Active Directory.

While only a minor release, this new version shows Centrify's commitment to supporting the widest range of platforms in the industry for UNIX authentication and access control, delivering rapid support of new platforms such as Windows 2008, meeting platform certification requirements that customers expect from a vendor, and our continued investment beyond integrating UNIX operating systems into Active Directory but also supporting key applications that run on top of UNIX.
